The purpose of the mezuzah is to act as a constant reminder of God's presence. Jews will often touch the mezuzah as they go through the door. This practice is rooted in the instructions from the Torah. A customer of mine, after admiring my fused glass art, suggested that I create mezuzah cases. I have crafted these cases in fused glass, as well as in metal with colorful enamel and whimsical ceramics. Each fused glass case is beautifully wire wrapped, and some are mounted on copper or brass backings. Inside, a small piece of rolled paper indicates where the mezuzah would be placed. These cases are designed for display only, with the small rolled paper representing where the mezuzah would go. Interestingly, a customer pointed out that you don't have to be Jewish to have your home blessed; you can place any prayer or message in the provided space for a nice thought.
